The Musée des Beaux-Arts is housed in a palace-like Belle Epoque villa built in 1878 by a Ukrainian princess not far from the neighborhood where many Russian emigres had settled. It became the city's fine arts museum in 1925, initially named for Jules Chéret, known as the father of poster art, who lived in Nice at the end of his life. Though small, it has a rich collection that spans four centuries and includes sculpture by Rodin, ceramics by Picasso and paintings by Brueghel the Elder, Dufy, Fragonard, Monet as well as works by Chéret.
