A monumental Baroque square designed by Antoine Spinelli in the late 18th century, Place Garibaldi is named for Giuseppe Garibaldi, the Italian general who wanted his birthplace Nice to be part of a united Italy. With his statue as a focal point, it is known for cafés, bars, shops and people-watching. Weekends the square fills with antique dealers.
