Dadaism - an art movement of the European avant-garde - got its start at Cabaret Voltaire, although it soon moved on to cities like Berlin and Paris. Opened in 1916 by a group of exiled artists and writers, the cabaret provided a center for more offbeat artistic entertainment with spoken word, art, dance and music. Although the building fell into disrepair, the Dadahaus was revived and reopened in 2004 complete with a café bar, a shop, a Dada library and exhibitions.
