A large park in the north of the city, Quinta da Boa Vista was once part of the imperial palace grounds of the Portuguese Royal Family. Today it houses the National Museum and the city's Zoological Garden. Although the name of the park translates to "Park of the Nice View" because of a lookout on Guanaraba Bay, the infrastructure is under-resourced and investment in building upkeep lacking.
