Open only since 2005, Vallarta Botanical Gardens is 20 acres of somewhat manicured jungle with bridges, lianas, paths, river swimming and botanical collections. Its restaurant serves Mexican cuisine. About a 30-minute drive south of the city, it opens early for birders in the winter season. Insect repellant is advised.
