The first permanent European settlement on the Pacific Coast, the city had 10,000 inhabitants when Henry Morgan sacked it in 1617. UNESCO named the 57-acre ruins a World Heritage Site in 1997.The museum is a 15-minute walk from the ruins with a handicraft market in the visitors' center.
