Johannesburg has the honor of hosting South Africa's first Gay Pride, but Cape Town is the biggest in the country and on the continent. Begun in 2001, Cape Town Pride is a 10-day festival with Mr. and Mrs. Pride Cape Town Pride pageant, "pink ball," hikes, book fair, pool parties and beach picnics. The main event is the mid-day parade along Beach Road, beginning and ending at the Cape Town Stadium where an evening of live music awaits.
