The pleasant Plaza des Armas or Presidencia Square is the center of government business and where the Tourism Office is located. Weekends its bandstand often hosts free concerts and lessons in Danzón, originally a Cuban dance form but now popular in Mexico. The square has a statue of Ignacio Vallarta, a late 19th century lawyer and politician for whom the city is named.
