Gingerbread Square Gallery, founded in 1974 by Richard A. Heyman - who would go on to become one of the first openly gay mayors in the U.S., is the city's oldest art gallery. Early on it exhibited the artwork of Tennessee Williams and the gay primitive artist Henry Falkner, who lived in Key West with his goat. Today its artists include the popular Sal Salnero, a Key West native, and John KIraly, whose fantastical paintings are recognized nationally.
